2013 Continuing Education Prospectus

Kia Orana

Our focus in education is to build the skills, knowledge, attitudes and values of Cook Islanders to put their capabilities to best use in all areas of their lives -“Learning for Life”.

Continuing to learn throughout our lives, and growing our skills, is good for our families, contributes to the cohesion of our community, and strengthens our economy.

This prospectus describes some of the opportunities for further learning that we will be offering in 2013. Changes are happening in tertiary education and training, and more courses will be developed over the next year.

All the courses offer opportunities for you to develop new skills. Many recognise that skill development with internationally recognised qualifications while for others the recognition is the satisfaction you have of knowing you have learnt something new.

Take a moment to look through this prospectus, look for courses you would like to do, encourage your family to have a look, encourage your friends and your work mates. There are opportunities for all to be involved in Learning for Life.

Mou i te ko,
Mou i te ere,
Kia pukuru o vaevae,
Kia mokora o kaki.

The Teaching and Learning Advisory consists of:

The Teaching and Learning Advisors focus is on the "how" of teaching and learning rather than the "what".

This Advisory has four core areas of responsibility:

  1. To facilitate quality learning opportunities that meets the needs of all students by supporting all teachers and Principals.
  2. To facilitate schools in developing a holistic approach to learning, utilising community partnerships to better reflect the uniqueness of the school community.
  3. To provide support for teachers in the use of a range of relevant assessment tools.
  4. To inform teachers and principals of current best practice pedagogies and to support with implementation.

These areas of responsibility will be achieved by working alongside teachers, principals and other Ministry of Education staff.

See the Teaching and Learning blogs and status updates for examples of what we can offer and how we could support you and your students.

The Teaching and Learning forum is a website that directs teachers and principals to relevant and topical professional readings and provides a space for teachers and principals to discuss teaching and learning practice.
