Kia Orana to our Parents, Caregivers & Supporters,
Parents/caregivers, families and supporters are most welcome to come and support our children. It is expected to be an exciting day.
REPORTS DAY
We had a very good turnout of parents/caregivers to our Reports' Day and Parents' Interview on Thursday last week. 94% of the reports were collected. Some parents/caregivers who could not come on Reports day have been coming in to collect their children's report and this is really fantastic.
TOOTH BRUSHING DRILLS
As reported in our last newsletter, the tooth brushing drill began last week with all the Junior students brushing their teeth. Unfortunately, many of the Middle and Senior students did not bring their own toothbrush to school. We would like to encourage parents/caregivers to please help us help our children. We need to help our children. We will continue with this program throughout the year.
Our aim is to help students, especially in the older classes, realize that they need to brush their teeth regularly to keep them healthy and long lasting.
SOCCER COMPETITION
On Thursday last week, while we were having our Re-ports Day and Parents Day at school, our B & C Soccer teams were at the CIFA grounds to challenge other schools on Rarotonga in the one-day soccer competition.
Mrs Mairi Heather was the coach for our C mixed team and they came third overall after Avarua and Takitumu. Miss Memory Tereora was the coach for the B girls and they came second after Avarua School. Mr Jeremiah Teokotai was the coach for the B Boys and they came first. Both the B girls and boys had a penalty shoot out to determine their placing. According to the coaches all the students played extremely well.
We would like to thank our students' parents, friends and supporters who were at the games to cheer on our stu-dents. Your presence is very much appreciated.
PEACE AMBASSADORS
On Friday last week, our Peace Ambassadors: Mem-ory Manuela and Terekino Vaireka (Deputy Head Girl and Boy) attended a workshop at USP with other Peace Ambas-sadors from other schools on Rarotonga. Johanna Simiona of Pan-Pacific and South East Asia Women's Association (PPSEAWA) coordinated the workshop.
After the participants introduced themselves they were put into groups to brainstorm how they could promote peace in their schools this year. Each group came up with possible goals, what their roles as peace ambassadors could be, peace activities and a time frame to do all these.
Vaireka and Manuela's group suggested that the peace ambassadors should be good leaders, teach others peaceful ways, show everyone what a good student should be like, and obey the school rules. The peace activities they recommended include visiting old people, cleaning the envi-ronment, hold an art or writing competition and have a peace day or week. A light refreshment was offered for the participants at the end of the workshop.

ROOM 4 & 6 GUEST SPEAKER
During our Book Week, Mrs Marjorie Crocombe was invited to share her experiences as an author to Year 5 stu-dents in rooms 4 & 6. She mesmerized the students and the teachers with the wonderful stories she told. She donated some valuable resources (below) to the school before she was farewelled with singing and dancing.
MAORI WORKSHOPS
For the past two weeks the teachers have held a cou-ple of workshops to translate some of the children's English readers into Maori so these can be used to help with our Maori lessons especially in the Junior classes. So far we have translated over twenty books. Some teachers have vol-unteered to continue translating more books and some to do the setting, editing and printing during the school holidays.
The teachers next goal is to write Cook Islands con-text stories. They will also collect students writings to create our own original collec-tion of Maori readers to supplement the ones that we are working on now.
AUSTRALIAN TOURISTS CULTURAL EXPERIENCE
On Wednesday last week, the senior students hosted a group of senior citizens from Australia with various cultural activi-ties. The students were very happy to show off what they can do which our guests appreciated and enjoyed as they also participated in the activities to get that hands-on experience.
