World Teachers: Day 5th October
2008
On October 5th every year World Teachers’ Day is held around the world. The day provides the community with an opportunity to celebrate and recognise the important contributions made by teachers in young peoples’ lives everyday.
World Teachers day was inaugurated in 1993 by UNESCO and is now a joint initiative between Education International.
The theme for 2008 is “Teachers matter!” to highlight the need to provide professional training for quality education. Education International, in conjunction with teachers’ union, are calling for quality public training programmes for teachers.
