Telecom Cook Islands and the Ministry of Education strengthen links to Northern Group schools and communities Telecom Cook Islands and the Ministry of Education announced today that they have installed a VSAT terminal in two of the most remote islands in the Cook Islands – Nassau and Palmerston, strengthening the links in technology and education developments. VSAT, which stands for Very Small Aperture Terminal and is defined as a method using a small satellite terminal for a one-way and/or two-way (interactive) communications through satellite, will provide greater development opportunities and distance learning to Nassau and Palmerston and their schools. |

Homework without TearsThe first Te Kaikaia workshop called “Homework without Tears” was promising as mothers showed enthusisam to try out practical ways to help their children with homework. Creating a positive atmosphere and understanding different learning styles were keys to helping parents become involved in their children’s education. |

Finance UpdateWe have now reached the end of our financial year and it is imperative for school principals to submit their entire outstanding invoices for 2009/2010 to the Ministry of Education for payment out of your school operations budget. Already some schools have expended their operation budget and any outstanding invoices will be deferred to the next budget or payments will need to be made from your school own funds. |
