Telecom Cook Islands and the Ministry of Education strengthen links to Northern Group schools and communities

Telecom Cook Islands and the Ministry of Education announced today that they have installed a VSAT terminal in two of the most remote islands in the Cook Islands – Nassau and Palmerston, strengthening the links in technology and education developments.

VSAT, which stands for Very Small Aperture Terminal and is defined as a method using a small satellite terminal for a one-way and/or two-way (interactive) communications through satellite, will provide greater development opportunities and distance learning to Nassau and Palmerston and their schools.

Schools: Upcoming Events

Next month schools will be abuzz preparing themselves for a range of activities organized by the Ministry.

Outer islands are expected to start arriving from Atiu, Mitiaro, Mauke, Aitutaki and Mangaia from Friday 16 July.

On the following Monday (19 July 2010), beginning at 1pm the Women in Science and Technology seminar - (WISAT) will be held at The Rarotongan Beach Resort & Spa.

This is an afternoon seminar that provides an opportunity for students to talk with successful women presenters about their chosen career pathway in science or technology. This is facilitated by the Science Advisor, Jane Taurarii.

Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) Cook Islands:  1999 – 2008

This year will mark the eleventh year in which the AMC has been coordinated and offered to selected schools.

The 2009 competition date is Wednesday August 5th.

Westpac Cook Islands have been very generous in sponsoring this competition as well as being a major sponsor for many years in Australia; the AMC began in the 1970’s. Over the last 10 years, the total package has been worth $4,000 (special awards) and AUD$4,750 (entries & solution books).

INTERHOUSE RUGBY AND NETBALL TOURNAMENT

Tereora College is holding its annual inter-house rugby and netball tournament this Friday 24 July 2009 at Raemaru Park, Arorangi.  Unfortunately, the Tereora Stadium and courts are not available so we have had to move the venue to Arorangi this year.  We are grateful to the Arorangi Rugby Club for allowing us to use their facilities.
